Now that Build My Rank is dead, what’s next for link building?
Build My Rank’s closure last week came as a shock to many. I remember scanning SEO forums a week before and despite what many self-proclaimed SEO gurus are saying today, most were of the opinion that Google won’t come down cracking on BMR anytime soon.
After all, the service only accepted quality posts (by that I mean free of spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors) and did not allow keyword stuffing.
Anyhow, now that BMR is no more, at least for the time being (I trust them to come up with a new service soon), what should you do for link building?
I have been doing a lot of research for my clients lately and here are the Build my rank alternatives that I have come up with:
1)Sit on the fence and wait for the dust to settle down: I’ve been hearing good things about linkvana and rankjumpers, but I wouldn’t trust the reviews online just yet. I’d rather wait for two-three weeks to see how Google acts towards these services.
2)Guest Blog: I’ve written about guest blogging before and though it’s a far more time consuming link building process than churning out quick 150-word posts, for now it seems to be the safest. You get quality backlinks and increase your market reach.
3)Article Directories: Yes, there are people who are saying article marketing is dead as a link building and traffic generation tool, but trust me it isn’t. If it were, my content writing business graph would be on its way down south. I won’t recommend article marketing as your sole SEO strategy; however, it can still be an important component. Ezinearticles is the one that I recommend to all my clients.
4)Document Sharing Sites: There’s some debate on whether the backlinks on these sites are counted or not. I know from personal experience that the ones on issuu.com are counted. Those on Calameo usually send traffic your way. So, I would personally take my chances and post on a few document-sharing sites as well (I shall be sharing a list of the most useful ones soon).
5)Social Bookmarking: Again contrary to what many SEO expert will have you believe, a lot of these sites give ‘do-follow’ links that are counted by Google.
These are just some basic guidelines. How and what you place as the anchor text and what websites you choose to promote your content through is also important. At the moment, I am trying out Keyword Academy. Will post a review about the same soon.

BMR users were gaming Googs algo so they decided to take action. We should not take it too hard and ather consider it a challenge to provide better content and user experience.
